WEABL Player of the Week – 1 March 2023

The WEABL regular season may nearly be at a close, but that didn’t stop another group of players from putting up standout performances to begin March.

Week 16 contained five games in total, with some big ramifications across the league. After taking a look over some likely candidates for honours, there was a clear standout for the latest Player of the Week award.

In Copleston’s 94-74 victory over fourth place Itchen, Saruna Gudza may have top scored with 22 points, but our plaudits go to team mate Christabel Osarobo for her standout performance.

Osarobo put together a stunning triple-double performance to sink the South coast programme, scoring 18 points whilst pulling down 12 rebounds (including six on offence) to go with 10 steals.

The young star also dished six assists for a final efficiency rating of 37. Quite the day at the office!

Speaking about winning the award, Osarobo said: “It’s a great honour to be named WEABL Player of the Week.

“There are so many good players in this competition and so I feel very privileged to be selected.

“However, every time any of us get an individual award, it’s because of the whole team – so this is for all of us, not just me.”

Copleston head coach Nick Drane added: “Christabel’s development over the past two seasons with us has been extraordinary – she has gone from relative novice at this level to one of the best u18s in the country.

“This award is great recognition for her relentless work ethic and fantastic attitude.”
