WEABL recap – 25 January

Week 12 contained a trio of contests in the WEABL, with one game in the North and two in the South.

There were big wins for Oaklands, CoLA and Manchester, and we’ll check out all three ties below.

The Manchester Mystics Academy 67-63 The Sheffield College

The Northern conference’s only clash saw Manchester win their Roses battle against Sheffield, with a 67-63 final score.

The victory took the Mystics to the top of the standings with a 5-1 record, one win ahead of Nottingham, thanks to 22 points from former Player of the Week Isobel Robinson.

Erica Egan led the way for Sheffield with 22 points of her own, though it wouldn’t be enough to stop the Yorkshire programme from falling to 1-4.

Barking Abbey 35-76 City of London Academy – Southwark

Southern top dogs CoLA easily saw off cross-town rivals Barking, winning 76-35.

The win moved coach Gibbons’ side to 7-1, with Ana-Isabel Andersson (20pts) and Emily O’Connell (13pts) both impressing.

Barking slipped to 1-4 on the year, with Fatmata Janneh (9pts) top scoring on a tough afternoon for the hosts.

Oaklands College 63-68 Itchen College

Oaklands created a three way tie for second place as they beat Itchen 68-63.

Both teams involved now sit on 12 points, as do Copleston, though Oaklands have played two more games than either of their rivals.

Kizzy Spence, Rosie Porter and Eva Karasaite (13pts) all played well for the Wolves in the narrow victory, with Itchen coming up just short despite 31 points from Erin Caldwell.
