Summer Showcase – week 6 preview

There’s just two weeks to go until the end of the 2021 WEABL Summer Showcase, but there’s still plenty of time for quality basketball.

A trio of games make up week six, with all three taking place tomorrow.

We take a look at all the match ups below, with plenty of action in store for WEABL fans.

Results and top scorers from previous weeks can be seen on the score ticker at the top of this page.

North Pool

Manchester Mystics Academy v Derby Trailblazers Academy

Manchester v Derby is the North’s only fixture in week six, but it should still provide an exciting contest between two well-matched teams.

Both programmes have had a significant break since they last hit the court, with Manchester beating Sheffield 60-50 in week three and Derby topping the same opponent 64-56 in week two.

Charli Wroe is sure to be a standout and enjoyed 19 points in that week three win, whilst Natasha Barker and Megan Lovett both had 15 for Derby last time out.

South Pool

John Madejski Academy v Itchen College

Action in the South begins with Itchen’s trip to Berkshire to take on John Madejski Academy.

Playing in all five game weeks so far, Itchen are a respectable 3-2 behind the exploits of Charlotte Finn, Faye Endean and Sara Tarr.

JMA have been leaning on Jessie Ford, who had 18 points in last week’s 68-46 defeat against Copleston. WNBL Division One Defensive Player of the Year Sitota Gines Espinosa has also been on song, she enjoyed 20 points and seven steals in week three.

Barking Abbey v Copleston High School

The week ends with Copleston’s trip to Barking, with a 4:30pm tip tomorrow afternoon.

Winners of their last two with victories against Itchen and JMA, BA have enjoyed some serious production from Ines Goryanova. Averaging 33PPG in those two outings, it’s easy to see why the guard has been turning heads at the WBBL level this season.

Copleston sealed a pair of wins in week five, beating JMA and Oaklands, and the Suffolk programme were boosted by 32 points from the talented Ella Pearson.

The battle between Pearson and Goryanova could wind up being one of the highlights of the week, so stay tuned for that one.
