The Sheffield College 57 – 54 Derby Trailblazers

The Sheffield College secure a huge win after an intense match-up against the Derby Trailblazers, coming out on top 57-54.

Neck and neck throughout the whole game, everyone was left at the edge of their seats until the very last seconds of the game. However an impressive defensive effort with huge blocks and some important big shots dropping allowed the home side winning the game by a narrow margin.

Passion and hustle were shown from both sides throughout but four players in double figures scoring (Zoe Kateregga with 21, Abbey Whitehouse with 14, Grace Roberts and Ella Whitehouse on 10) led Sheffield to the win.

Derby  also had some impressive individual performances, in particular sharp distance shooting and tricky finishes from Miya Kelly for 16 points,  Natasha Barker who had 11 and Megan Lovatt on 8.

Sheffield’s coach Aidan Appleyard was very pleased with the team’s performance: “It was a closely fought game throughout but I was pleased with the way the girls dug in during 4th to secure the win.

“With the team hit by injuries and illness everyone stepped up and made a positive contribution.”

The Sheffield College hope to improve their record to 4-1 as they face Charnwood at home in a weeks time. Derby will try to finish 2019 with a victory as they face Myerscough next week.
