John Madejski Academy 62 v 44 City of London Academy

It was a great start to the season for John Madejski Academy as they grabbed a 62 – 44 win against City of London Academy, with Carmen Segura top scoring for JMA on 17 points.

From the opening tip it was a physical game where both teams were pressing full court. That led to a number of mistakes that stopped the 1st quarter from findings a rhythm for either team on offence.

In the 2nd quarter JMA grabbed a small advantage, getting some fast break points with Segura leading the team. At half time the score was 33-24 in favour of the hosts.

CoLA began to push on after the interval and reduced their arrears to just three points, but JMA regrouped and found a way to stay ahead. That was thanks in part to Sitota Espinosa who got hot late in the quarter to help JMA build a decisive 22 point advantage.

There was to be no let up from JMA as they had to begin the 3rd and the final quarter played out routinely. CoLA kept fighting but unfortunately the damage had been done behind that 3rd quarter burst from the home side.

Segura top scored for JMA with 17, whilst Anabel Latorre had 12. Ozzy-Momodu was the top scorer for CoLA with 13.

Next week JMA travel to Oaklands College as CoLa host Copleston.
