Oaklands v Greig City

Oaklands College secured a back to back win against Greig City Academy on Wednesday afternoon as the home side won 84-30 against the North London outfit.

Krisztina Nagy led all scorers with 23 points with multiple team-mates in double figures; Maja Gobi had 18, Tia Freeman with 15 and Anna Nagy 13.

The game started a tighter affair than the teams first meeting with GCA showing improvement and more determination to make life difficult for Oaklands Academy as they hit two early threes taking the lead 8-7 in the opening part for the first quarter.

Oaklands experience and quality soon came to the front as they stepped up a gear and went on a 8-0 run to close the first leading 15-8. The second quarter was all business by Oaklands who locked GCA down defensively and capitalised off some good fast break basketball.

On the eve of their birthday; the Nagy twins led the way in the second combining for 15 points to give Oaklands a comfortable 44-11 half time advantage.

GCA came out the locker room with new life and a much more aggressive approach to the ball game which saw them score 13 and win the quarter by 1 point. Oaklands regained their dominance as they began the fourth with a 18-0 run that saw them through to the finish and another solid all round performance as they push to be ready for WEABL playoff basketball.

Back-to-back WEABL Player of the Week, Kyla Nelson said: “We realise that we need to keep investing in trying to play our style of basketball for 40 minutes.

“WEABL games are a great way to see how far we can stretch ourself in maintaining a style that makes us successful. My team-mates did a great job today, we are all striving for excellence”

GCA’s Precious Adediran had 9 points personal to lead the visitors.

Oaklands College travel to Copleston next week, whilst GCA travel to Barking Abbey on the same day.
