Oaklands College vs Itchen College

Oaklands College received their much awaited first win of the season on Wednesday afternoon after beating Itchen College.

In a year of development for both programs, the current Oaklands College roster showed their improvement as they moved past Itchen College in well fought game by both outfits. Itchen having knocked out Oaklands in the cup earlier this campaign, opened the game confidently and held a narrow 14-12 lead to end the first period. Oaklands grew in the game and started to sure up the defensive end which led to two scoring runs of 6 and 8 points unanswered which gave them a 27-23 half time advantage.

The second half was led by Oaklands throughout, however in a game with only 4 made three point shots (all by Oaklands) it remained a close contest until the last 3 minutes of the game when Oaklands managed to push their advantage out to double digits.

“Good to get our first win,” said Head Coach Lee Ryan after todays result, “The players were resilient and did a great job to hold them to 42 points. Still room for growth and with a few games left this season we have to maximise each opportunity to show our improvement and identify areas we need to work on over the summer.”

Oaklands were led once again by guards Sami Brown and Fionnuala Wharton with 14 and 12 points each, and Forward Louise Rouse added 9 points for the home side.Itchen College were led by forward Heather Johnstone’s 14 points, whilst teammates Louise Pilley and Luisa San Juan chipped in 7 points a piece

Oaklands host COLA Wednesday 6th February, whilst Itchen have a gap week then host Barking Abbey on the February 12th at home.
