Nottingham v Myerscough

Myerscough College improved to a 5-2 record after beating Nottingham 36-60 on the road.

Milly Knowles top scored with 22 points with Shauna Harrison adding a further 18 points in the win.

Denise Lawal and Brahe Ashton led the way for the home side as they combined for 11 points, while Knowles hit 12 on her own for the visitors as they edged the first quarter 13-18.

The second quarter saw Nottingham’s scoring slow drastically as some good offensive teamwork was let down by finishing. At the same time Knowles continued to score but was joined by team-mates JD Quinn and Smith as Myerscough pulled away to a 16-35 half-time advantage.

Nottingham rallied in the third and with Freya Bennison cutting nicely to the basket they won the quarter 14-13. The scoring for both teams slowed a bit at the start of the fourth before Harrison hit nine points to help Myerscough build on their lead.

Nottingham coach Phil Waghorn said: “I thought we battled throughout tonight and had moments of great team play with our girls cutting effectively to the basket.

“Myerscough are a tough team and their combination of size and good finishing proved too much for us.”

The home side were led in scoring by Lawal’s 14-point haul as they complete their maiden regular season campaign.

Nottingham finish with a 3-6 record, but will advance to the Play-Offs, while Myerscough take on Charnwood in their next game.
