Nottingham v Moulton

It took overtime before Nottingham Academy managed to pull away from Moulton College for an 85-70 victory in their first home game of the season.

Ines Guerreiro had 27 points for Nottingham, while Caitlyn Riley and Brahe Ashton both had 20.

Nottingham’s Guerreiro and Moulton’s Paige Vyse battled it out in the first quarter with 12 and eight points respectively as the quarter ended even at 16 apiece.

With both teams finding a more team balanced attack in the second quarter, Nottingham managed to build a five-point advantage at 38-33 going into half-time.

The second half was tight throughout and the game would head into overtime as Nottingham hit the tying free throw in the dying seconds of regulation at 66-66. Vyse fouled out to allow the hosts to take control and Ashton fired in three triples as part of a dominant overtime period.

“Moulton provided tough competition in their first WEABL fixture,” said Nottingham’s Head Coach Phil Waghorn.

“It went down to the wire in normal time and it was great to see Mariam Olawoyin hold her nerve at the free throw line to send the game into overtime.”

Vyse finished with 29 points for Moulton with Mica Denton adding 13 and Georgia Collins 12.

Moulton face Oaklands next week while Nottingham will wait until November 8 to play Oaklands in their away fixture.
