Nottingham Academy Wildcats 69 – 47 Manchester Mystics Academy

Back in action for the first time in the new year, Nottingham Academy Wildcats came out on top against the visiting Manchester Mystics Academy 69-47.

Two strong defensive quarters proved too much for the visitors, driven by a strong performance from Mariam Olawonyin who ended the game with 26 points and 5 steals on her way to helping her team hold their opponents to 7 points in both the first and third quarters.

“We moved the ball really well at times, playing with a level of focus and confidence, that was nice to see. Definitely a step in the right direction” said Nottingham Academy Wildcats head coach Kenrick Liburd.

Maisie Evision added 16 for Nottingham Academy while Shaniya Rose and Latesha Willis had 15 and 10 rebounds respectively, with Nottingham dishing out 19 assists during the contest. The visiting team from Manchester were paced by 20 points from GB international Jade Mbam and 17 from teammate Holy Bryan.

Nottingham Academy Wildcats have a week off and then travel to WEABL reigning champions and Northern Conference leaders Charnwood College Riders on the 29th of January.

Manchester are in action next week on Wednesday 22nd with a trip to Sheffield College in a bid to get back to winning ways.
