Nottingham Academy Wildcats 76 – 46 Derby Trailblazers Academy

Nottingham Academy Wildcats hosted geographic rivals Derby College on Wednesday with Derby pushing for the 4th and final Northern Conference playoff spot and NAW trying to tighten their grip on 2nd place. The Wildcats ran out with a dominant performance finishing the contest with a 76-46.

A competitive first half saw the home side go into the break with a six point to lead 33-27.

Mariam Olawoyin was once again the driving force for the Wildcats, ending the game with 22 points and an ever present force at the defensive end. The performance included 9 points in the 3rd where Derby were held to 3pts and just one field goal.

Newcomer DeJanae Dennis-Cassonova who has recently returned from injury and has made an instant impact as a leader had the following to say: “Good overall performance from the whole team. A lot people stepped up making everyone’s job easier.

“We played well together and shared the ball very well – Focus and effort were there the whole game, which meant we were able to get the job done comfortably.”

Shaniya Rose continued her solid run of form with 18 points and Maisie Evision added 16 for NAW, while the visitors were aided by 17 and 15 from Megan Lovett and Kenny Hamilton respectively.

“Everyone knows we have to keep working hard and improving our level of performance,” added Wildcats head coach Kenrick Liburd.

“We are excited as we really struggled at Derby in the early season and at times in this game we were very good.”

Nottingham Academy Wildcats travel to Sheffield to play the final regular game of the season next week, Derby end the season with a rescheduled home game against Myerscough College.
