Nottingham Academy Wildcats 50 – 62 Charnwood College

Nottingham Academy Wildcats hosted Northern Conference leaders Charnwood College Riders, with the visiting Riders played out a compelling contest leading to a 62-50 win.

The visitors out rebounded the home side 62-40, led behind a strong performance from Alex Baker who finishing with 20 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocks, 16 of those points coming in the first half, helping Charnwood enter the half with a three point lead.

A competitive 3rd quarter saw the Academy Wildcats battle back only to go down 10-14. A low scoring 4th quarter resulted in both teams not reaching double figures, and Charnwood closing out a competitive game.

“As always they were very organised and prepared, they have dominated the North for a very long time. We have a simple goal of getting better every game and giving ourselves an opportunity to compete,” said Nottingham Academy Wildcats head coach Kenrick Liburd.

Maisie Evision who paced the home side with 15 points went on to say, “Although we unfortunately took the loss there are so many positives that we can take from the game. We continue to grow as a team and I’m excited to see us going forward throughout the season.”

Nottingham Academy Wildcats also had two others in double figures, in Shaniya Rose and Mariam Olaoyin who ended with 10 and 13 respectively and both pulled down 9 rebounds each, Molly James added 10 points for the visitors.

Nottingham Academy Wildcats have a trip to Derby Trailblazers on the 20th of November still in search of their first win, while following an additional week off, Charnwood college host Derby on the 27 November.
