Nottingham Academy v Loreto College

Loreto secured their place in the WEABL league play after recording a 53-63 comeback win on the road at Nottingham Academy.

Lina Asobirionwu had 20 points to lead the visitors as they made it back-to-back wins, while Fiona Connolly and Silvia Okuonghae added 17 and 13 points respectively.

Nottingham built a 21-12 first quarter advantage as Brahe Aston combined with Caitlyn Riley, who hit 11 points in the quarter.

As good as Nottingham played in the first quarter, a change of defence and focus from Loreto combined with some poor shooting saw the home side hit just 3 points in the period. Loreto maintained their consistency and went in level at the half-time break.

The third quarter started with both teams making shots, but over the period Loreto managed to build a slender three-point advantage.

In the fourth, Loreto eventually pulled away with a strong finish to complete a 10-point win.

“All credit to Loreto for coming back form the early deficit. However, it was disappointing that our performance varied so much within the game,” commented Nottingham coach Phil Waghorn.

Riley finished with 16 points for the hosts with Ashton close behind on 15, while Ines Guerreriro had 11.
