Nottingham Academy v Charnwood College

Charnwood College opened their 2016-17 campaign with a convincing 20-84 victory away at Nottingham Academy.

Last season’s runners-up held their opponents scoreless in the opening period as they made a 17-0 start. Nottingham managed six points in the second but struggled to contain the size and strength of the visitors.

With 10 players scoring for Charnwood, it was the opposite for Nottingham as only four players managed to get on the scoreboard. Charnwood produced both an effective inside and perimeter game it became increasingly difficult for Nottingham to slow the scoring.

Nicole Hofmann led the way for Charnwood with 16 points and was supported by Harriett Swindells and Jessica Eadsforth-Yates scoring 13 points each with Ruchae Walton adding 12.

For Nottingham, Brahe Ashton top scored with eight points as they drop to a 2-2 record.

Nottingham coach Phil Waghorn said “We can take some positives from our defensive effort, but Charnwood were just too strong and too deep for us today.”

Charnwood travel to Loreto for their next game on November 30, while Nottingham will also take on Loreto a week later on December 7
