Myerscough College v Charnwood College

Myerscough claimed its first win of the WEABL season with a 48-43 win over Charnwood on Wednesday.

Milly Knowles had a game-high 19 points, leading a trio of Myerscough scorers in double-figures as Kyra Smith and Shauna Harrison both chipped in with 11.

“We had to stay focused on our goal which was winning the game,” said Myerscough forward Knowles.

“The boys really bring us up when we needed and lift and they made a huge difference for us.”

Myerscough and Charnwood battled to what would appear to be a level half-time scoreline, but Imogen Cook was found with a long inbounds pass and she beat the buzzer to give the Student Riders a 22-24 lead.

Rhiannon Watkins lifted Charnwood to its largest second half lead at 26-32 before Myerscough rallied around an 8-2 run to carry a tied game into the fourth.

The lead then exchanged hands three times with Charnwood eventually edging into a 38-41 advantage, though Myerscough would score the final nine points of the game.

Megan Jones led Charnwood with 11 points in the loss.

Myerscough travels to Oaklands College next week and Charnwood hosts Loreto College
