Moulton College vs Oaklands College

Oaklands began their WEABL campaign with a dominant victory on the road against Moulton College with a 51-111 victory.

Ciara Belsham and Krisztina Nagy paced the visitors with 24 points apiece.

Both teams produced a tight and competitive opening quarter with the visiting side displaying some good team basketball nailing shots from long range. Seven points from Paige Vyse helped to keep Moulton within reach, though an 8-0 run by Oaklands concluded the opening period with them up 13-22.

Moulton struggled in the second quarter, which they were outscored 14-35 with Oaklands forwards causing significant problems as they converted second chance shots. Alongside some efficient perimeter shooting allow them to extend their lead at the half to lead 27-57 supported with nine quarter points from Belsham.

In the second half, Oaklands continued to show their quality outscoring Moulton, who were hindered in the half with Mica Denton and Leah Alcindor in foul trouble. A strong scoring performance by Nagy saw her score 10 fourth quarter points to secure Oaklands a first victory of the season.

Moulton Coach Rob Crump commented: “Oaklands provided us with a very tough challenge today, displaying their overall qualities inside and the perimeter.

“Despite the scoreline, I was happy with the commitment displayed by the team against a strong basketball team. These experiences are important if we are going continue to develop and progress during season.”
