John Madejski Academy vs Barking Abbey School

John Madejski Academy recorded an impressive win on Wednesday afternoon against Barking Abbey School as they ran out winners 60-47 behind Anabel Latorre Ciria’s 18 points.

Head Coach Blai Benlloch was pleased to see his team chalk up another victory and was happy with the performance that was on display. He said, “Today was always going to be a tough test for us against one of the country’s leading institutions so to come out of the game with a win is a very good achievement for us.

“We played well for many parts of the game and this performance is definitely one we can build upon after the new year.”

It was the opening quarter of the game that really did the damage as the hosts outscored their opponents 21-7, giving JMA a 14-point advantage after the first ten minutes of play.

Barking performed much better in the second quarter and nine points from Precious Adediran enabled the visitors to trim the deficit to 11 at the half, as JMA led 32-21 as the teams headed for the locker rooms.

JMA did not relinquish their lead despite the third quarter being a fairly nip-and-tuck affair, as the hosts extended their lead to 13, up 48-35 after thirty minutes. The fourth quarter followed in a similar fashion, with the home team in control of the contest, as they eventually ran out 60-47 winners to record their first ever win over Barking Abbey.

Latorre Ciria’s effort was supported by Noa Sanchez Marques with 14 points, as Paula Romero Tarrega added 13 for JMA. Barking Abbey were led by Teresa Da Silva who finished with 17 points, while Precious Adediran chipped in 15 and Macy Spinks contributed seven.

JMA will be back in action after the New Year when they travel to Ipswich on Wednesday 16 January to take on Copleston High School, whilst Barking Abbey make a trip to the south coast to take on Itchen College on Wednesday 9 January.
