Greig City v Oaklands College

Oaklands College ran out comfortable winners 75-33 over Greig City Academy on Wednesday afternoon’s fixture which was switched to Oaklands’ venue.

Maja Gobi top scored in the win with 20 points with twins Anna and Krisztina Nagy adding 19 points apiece with Kyla Nelson scoring 12.

Oaklands opened up the game in emphatic style scoring 25 unanswered points which included 5 threes to close out the quarter 25-0.

GCA managed their first points of the game from the foul line in the second minute, however Oaklands continued to dominate the game with more scoring from the perimeter and multiple fast break points.

GCA reached double figures for the half when Precious Adediran hit the team’s first deep shot at the end of the half to head into the break down 46-11.

The second half opened slower than the first. Oaklands came out with some new tactical changes and GCA found their rhythm in the contest; behind their top scorer Adediran, they managed to score with some good ball movement and inside-outside basketball.

Oaklands’ lead was cut down to 25 going into the final quarter but they were able to slow down GCA once again and get back to their running game to restore their comfortable win.

“It was a great win today for the team,” said Gobi. “We are always using these games to learn and improve and that is something I personally wanted to do today. I was able to achieve this with the help of the girls today, my teammates are the best.

“We are now a step closer to the finals with this win, we need to continue the journey we are on and finish the regular season with good performance to be ready for playoffs.”

For Greig City, Adediran scored 16 of her team’s 33 points with Simona Henshaw-Ejiogu adding 9 points

The two teams meet once more at Oaklands College for the official home game in St Albans on 22nd February at 2pm.
