Greig City Academy vs Nottingham Academy

Greig City Academy secured their first win of the season with a 63-37 victory against Nottingham Academy to begin the WABL.

Nottingham arrived in good time and the hour long warm up served them well as they scored 16 points in the first quarter. GCA were able to keep pace and it looked like a close game would keep the home crowd interested.

A defensive adjustment from GCA helped turn the tables as they won the second quarter 20-2.

Nottingham regrouped at the half and matched GCA basket for basket, but the damage was done and the home team secured the win.
“We have had some great games against Nottingham in the past and this team played with that same fighting spirt and poise throughout,” commented Head Coach Dan Bowmaker.

“I was really impressed by Ashton and Guerreiro they were a real handful for 40 minutes, today our offensive rebounding was the best its been and we managed to get more second chance points to help us get the win,

“I’m sure Nottingham will be ready for our return fixture so Im looking forward to that game already.”

GCA had four players in double digits in a balanced attack, whilst Nottingham were led by Brahe Ashton’s nine points.
