Derby Trailblazers Academy 56 – 48 Manchester Mystics Academy

Derby picked up a fantastic win against Manchester Mystics Academy to help keep their playoff hopes alive.

Mia Kelly was on fine form, leading the way with 18 points and supported by Megan Lovatt with 11 points and Annelise Rountree with 10.

The game was a close fought encounter, which saw both teams struggle to take a commanding lead. That rresulted in a physical battle which saw both team get into foul trouble.

However Derby were able to develop a small lead and coupled with Kenny Hamilton’s superb defensive efforts, Manchester were unable to close the gap the rest of the way.

Derby’s Head coach Paul Bowen said: “The girls show tremendous effort and focus on defensive, which is something we have been working hard on in practice.

“It was brilliant for the team to get a win at home and helps keep our playoff hopes alive.

“The girls played so well together and that shows in the spread of points.”

Derby have secured the head to head with Manchester following the result, that could be critical as both teams fight for the final play off spot in the Northern Conference.
