Copleston High School vs John Madejski Academy

Copleston Sixth Form continued their unbeaten run in the WEABL with a comprehensive 79-49 victory over John Madejski Academy at Copleston Centre on Wednesday afternoon.

A resolute defensive display from the Ipswich based side ensured an overall comfortable victory, which leaves Copleston top of the Southern Conference.

Though Copleston started strong it was a 25-11 2nd quarter which extended the lead to 23 before half time. This was a lead that home side never gave up. JMA did not give in, and there was plenty of great ball movement on display from the away side to keep the home team honest, but the longer the game went on it was clear that there was only going to be one winner.

Copleston were led by 21 points from Becky Harwood-Bellis , 19 from Esther Little and 15 from Cameron Taylor-Willis and JMA were led by Anabel Latorre Ciria with 15 points while Elena Palacios Amarel added 11.

“I thought we were excellent defensively today, and the scoreline does not reflect how good of a team JMA are or how tough they are to beat. We got stops throughout the game, and if we can continue with that intensity defensively for the rest of the season we’ll be very hard to beat” said Copleston’s Head Coach Nick Drane. “We’ve had a great season so far, but we can’t take our eye off the ball. There’s plenty of hard games left to come, but I’m really pleased with how the group is playing. Though I still think we have a lot to improve on.”

Copleston have a week break before travelling away to City of London Academy on the 30th January, while JMA host the same opponents in Reading next week.
