City of London Academy vs Loreto College

City of London Academy opened their home account in the WEABL at home to Loreto College Mystics on Wednesday afternoon, taking the victory 77-32 against the side from Manchester.

Megan Haines top scored with 21 points in the win with Maya Hyacienth adding 10 points, while Mia-Jaye Sarkodee-Adoo and Ashana Hinds both had six points apiece.

The game started with CoLA racing out to a 15-point lead with good defence leading to fast break scores for CoLA guards Hinds and Haines.

Two-time WEABL Player of the Week Lina Asobirinwu got the visitors off the mark in front of a good home crowd, however the first quarter ended with the London side in control up by 17 points.

The second quarter saw CoLA’s depth come into play as a steady rotation of their twelve girls ensured fresh legs and forced Loreto into some foul trouble. Chloe Andrew tried to get Loreto back into the game with five straight points, however the superior depth of CoLA again allowed the lead to build to 23-point at the half.

With the lead continuing to grow in the second half, both sides played the game in the right spirit and CoLA ran out convincing winners, to get WEABL league play off to a winning start.

Andrew finished with 15 points for Loreto with Bethany Waugh also in double figures with 10.

CoLA now take to the road for a rematch against JMA next Wednesday, whilst Loreto are at home to Barking Abbey the same day.
