City of London Academy v Greig City

City of London Academy opened their playoff account with a 71-29 win over London rivals Greig City Academy on Wednesday afternoon.

The hosts jumped out to an early 19-2 lead behind some good offensive play from the CoLA starters. Cheyenne Scott set the tone with a brilliant performance leading her side from the front and stamping her mark on the game with 15 points.

GCA did a good job of recovering in the second period and had the deficit as low as 14 points at one stage.

However, the afternoon seemed to belong to Scott who was supported by Esther Oluade who played extremely well at the point guard position and Khaleah Edwards who also had 15 points.

The deficit was a little too much for GCA to come back in the second half, however the team from North London never gave up and fought until the very last second. Scott had this to say about her performance

“I wanted to start fast today as a team like GCA can make the game hard for us like they did in our last fixture,” declared Scott.

“I knew today with a couple of our girls missing we couldn’t afford to give them that opportunity. I’m pleased we’ve made the semi-finals, we know what the task in front of us is and we are embracing it, no shortcuts for us.”

GCA were led by Precious Adediran’s 12 points with Rachel Achunine adding seven as their maiden campaign in the league came to an end.

CoLA will now host defending champions and the in-form team in the league, Barking Abbey, next Wednesday after they saw off Myerscough in their quarter-final.
