Charnwood v Copleston

Charnwood returned to winning ways by moving into the Final Four with an 81-46 win at home to Copleston.

Megan Jones top scored with 14 points with Harriet Swindells also in double figures with 11 points.

The home side’s balanced attack also saw five other players score at least eight points in the win.

It was a steady start from both teams as expected both teams up for the occasions, however Charnwood open up a 11 point lead at the end of the quarter.

Copleston responded well in the second quarter, but sharp shooting from Charnwood allowed them to go into the half with a 16-point lead. In the second half Charnwood continued their strong defence which caused Copleston some problems putting them in difficult situations and helped Charnwood score in transition.

Copleston never gave up and kept up their transition game to keep the fight to Charnwood, however some timely plays in second half led to a 81-46 win for Charnwood.

“The girls did great job today,” declared Head Coach Krumesh Patel.

“It was the most focused they had been all year and were really locked in. They have responded really well and we hope to keep this momentum moving into the Semi Finals next week.

“Team basketball was on show today and it was a pleasure to watch. Credit to Copleston as they fought the whole game and didn’t refuse to give up.”

Ashleigh Pink and Frances Musson scored 10 points apiece for Copleston as they bow out at the Elite Eight stage.

Charnwood advance to a Final Four showdown with Oaklands next week.
