Charnwood College vs Nottingham Academy Wildcats

Charnwood College continued their solid start to the WEABL Northern Conference campaign as their winning streak increased to three games with a 65-19 victory over Nottingham Academy.

In the second time the two teams have met this season, Charnwood got off to an extremely strong start as they won the first quarter 19-3, lead by nine points from Megan Jones. Nottingham battled back and were more effective in the second period, as they won the quarter 10-11.

However, the second half was an extremely one-sided affair. The defeated Nottingham side struggled to battle through as the Riders kept them to just five points in the half as the hosts ran away with the game.

Charnwood first year guard Ashante Richards said, “Today was a great team win for us, we will continue to keep improving each week. We want to be playing our best basketball in the WEABL come play-off time.”

Charnwood were paced by 15 points apiece from Megan Jones and Holly Wright, while Niamh Kelshaw chipped in 11 and Imogen Cook had eight. Meanwhile, seven points from Shaniya Rose led the Nottingham effort, as Brahe Ashton added six.

Charnwood’s next game sees them visit Myerscough College, bound to be a good battle between the two Northern Conference rivals, while Nottingham are next in action in the New Year when they host Manchester Mystics Academy.
