Charnwood College vs Barking Abbey School

Charnwood College defeat Barking Abbey School 62-38 in their WEABL Quarter Finals match-up on Wednesday.

In a replay of last years WEABL finals which saw both teams go against each other, this game was always going to be a good affair with two talented teams fired up and ready to go. Charnwood started of the better with a 15-8 first quarter lead, with early scoring from Holly Wright and Hannah Dawson. However, Barking came back firing in the second quarter, with  strong scoring from Loren Christie with 7 points in the period.

In the second half, Charnwood came out firing and managed to slow down Barking with some defensive intensity led by Imogen Cook, holding Barking to a 12-point half. Back-to-back threes from Holly Winterburn then stretched the lead and some timely scores from Holly Wright and Hannah Dawson managed to ice the game. It was a physical game throughout, with both teams playing their part.

Charnwood guard Niamh Kelshaw commented on her teams performance saying, Yesterday was a great game to be apart of, we all showed great character and pushed through to show what we are capable of. It’s just one step closer to what we want to achieve. It doesn’t just stop here! Everybody is ready and locked in!”

Charnwood now advance to the Semi Final where they will play Copleston Sixth form next Wednesday.
