Charnwood College v City of London Academy

Charnwood College improved to a 2-0 start in the WEABL after edging out City of London Academy 65-62, on Wednesday.

Harriet Swindells led the way with 14 points in a balanced scoring effort as Anna Popovic added nine points and Chloe Compton, Nicole Hoffman and Eleanor Jones contributed eight points apiece.

CoLA caused the home side issues in what was a physical game throughout. Charnwood battled well to keep the game close and picked up from a slow start to finish the half up by four.

Late on, Swindells held her nerve from the line to sink two foul shots and Charnwood were able to force a tough shot and prevent the game going into overtime.

“CoLa played a good game, they were physical and changed up there defences which put is a different situations,” said Charnwood Head Coach Krumesh Patel.

“The girls did a good job to overcome the pressure over the course of the game to gain the victory. Still a long way to go but it is great to see different girls stepping up each game and finding different ways to win”

Anna Popovic added: “It was a challenge for us defensively as cola were very aggressive, however I’m glad we pushed through and were able to get the win”

City of London were led by Ire Ozzy-Momodu’s 16 points, while Ibilola Oydeji added 11 points in their second defeat of the season.

Charnwood College will look to continue their good start against Oaklands College in two weeks, whereas City of London will look to bounce back and pick up their first win away at Loreto next Wednesday..
