Barking Abbey vs Myerscough College

Barking Abbey opened the WEABL season with a 76-49 win over Myerscough on Wednesday afternoon at BA Leisure Centre.

Despite trailing at the end of the opening period, BA dominated the second period 22-5 to get a comfortable lead that they would ride the rest of the way to victory.

Zoe Willis led BA with 15 points, Dami Adeyinka had 13, whilst Charlotte Ellmore added 12.

“Defensively Flora Duregian had the best game she has played so far with plays on the offensive glass,” BA Head Coach Karen Burton commented.

“Zoe Willis and Charlotte Ellmore led by example today and showed why regardless of the position in the WBBL they are two of the best guards in the league.

“It was a good game for us players stayed on the same page and stuck to our principles which in some games this season has been missing, but it was a great start to the WEABL so I’m happy.”

Shauna Harrison led Myerscough with 15 points as Millie Knowles and Kyra Smith finished with 13 each.

“In a game of this standard you need to make the most of your opportunities offensively and work hard to compete throughout,” said Myerscough coach Julie Page.

“We struggled in both those areas today, so we have to evaluate the consistency of our effort levels and refocus.”

BA will now take on Loreto next week on the road, whilst Myerscough will return home to face Charnwood.
