Barking Abbey 45-46 CoLA

Barking Abbey lost another nail biter to fellow London rivals City of London Academy 46-45.

The game started with both teams struggling to find a rhythm offensively and both teams playing very good defense.  COLA’s standout guard Amelia Sandie was the standout player in the quarter scoring nearly half of COLAs points giving them a 13 – 9 lead after the first quarter.

The second quarter saw both teams start to find some rhythm offensively, Cynthia Adebayo for Barking had a good quarter scoring 8 points. Amelia Sandie continued to cause Barking problems along with Simona Henshaw who would go on to be the games top scorer.  COLA would take a 5-point lead into the half.

The third quarter was another low scoring quarter with Barking doing a good job of limiting COLA’s attack. Amelie Sandie would go down with a knee injury and would not be able to continue.  Barking would take advantage of this in the quarter winning it by 6 and taking a 1-point lead into the final quarter.

The fourth was a nervy affair with neither team being able to get a strong hold on the game.  Simona Henshaw would hit a big three with only a minute left to give COLA a 1-point lead.  Elizabeth Osilaja would have an opportunity to win the game with the last shot but unfortunately it fell short giving COLA the 46-45 win.

Head coach Mark Clark said “I was really happy with the way we played today, and we continue to get better each week, the girls are doing a good job of trying to do the right things”
