Barking Abbey 81 v 66 Oaklands College

Barking Abbey got their first home win of the WEABL season with a convincing 81 – 66 win at home against a talented Oakland Wolves team.

Barking got off to a fast start taking a 7 – 2 lead after a Elizabeth Osilaya three. Oaklands would reply with the very talented Louise Rouse who got to the line four times in the first quarter. Barking would have a strong finish to the end of the quarter with Anna Trett hitting three straight triples to take a 25 – 11 lead.

The second quarter started well for Oaklands with Rouse and Jocie Leovold hitting the first seven points of the quarter. Trett and Tamara Onakedo steadied the ship for the hosts but Oaklands would win the quarter 22 – 14, leaving Barking to take a six point lead into the break 39 – 33.

Barking came out with lots of energy to start the third with the youngest player on the court, Ines Goryanova, starting the quarter strongly assisting on numerous baskets and hitting open shots. Barking would once again regain control, winning the quarter 21-14 and taking a double-digit lead into the 4th.

The final frame was similar to the 3rd with Goryanova once again playing well as current WEABL Player of the Week Cynthia Adebayo started to be a factor as well with her finishing around the basket. Oaklands continued to battle behind Rouse’s scoring antics, she was hard to stop despite the result as she finished with a game high 30 points.

Top scorers for Barking were Goryanova with 17, with all her points coming in the second half, Anna Trett had 14 (including three triples) and Cynthia Adebayo with 14.

Top scorers for Oaklands were Rouse with 30 and Khia Lee with 8.

BA head coach Mark Clark was happy with the performance: “We played well today against a very talented Oaklands team. It was nice to have everyone contribute and we are looking forward to working hard and getting better over the coming months”
