Barking Abbey School vs Copleston High School

Barking Abbey fell in their first game in the defense of their WEABL National title on Wednesday afternoon, dropping their home opener to Copleston High School, 53-61.

A tight game throughout, Copleston held a narrow lead for the majority of the contest before Barking Abbey tied the game at 53 going into the final two minutes.  Back-to-back threes by Cameron Taylor-Willis and Charlotte Redhead then broke the game in Copleston’s favour and led them to victory.

Taylor-Willis was the games leading scorer with 21 points, joined by Charlotte Redhead and Ester Little in double figures for Copleston with 18 and 15, respectively. For Barking Abbey, Loren Christie and Patrycja Pawlata led with 10 points apiece.

Acting Barking Abbey Head Coach Tope Alli-Balogun said, “We knew that this was going to be a tough encounter against a good Copleston team and I thought that we showed some resilience during the team, giving ourselves a chance to win.  Losses give you an opportunity to reflect, correct and come back tougher and that’s what we will have to do.”

Barking Abbey will travel on the road next week looking for their first win against Itchen College, whilst Copleston will host Oakland’s college in a double header with their EABL team.
