Barking Abbey School 67 – 58 Copleston High School (After 1OT)

Barking Abbey won a thrilling overtime game against Copleston, led by 20 points from Jolicia Cadogan.

Barking got off to a fast start taking scoring the first 5 points, though Copleston would reply behind both Esther Little & Becky Harwood-Bellis.  The first quarter would be a high scoring one with both teams playing well.  It would end tied at 19 a piece.

The second quarter was very similar to the first with both teams playing well especially offensively with Cadogan and Tamara Onadeko both having good spells for Barking.  Little once again for Copleston would prove difficult to stop for Copleston and it was the visitors who would hold a narrow one-point lead at the half.

Barking came out with lots of energy to start the third and began to play better defensively, holding Copleston to 11 third quarter points while scoring 15 themselves.  Barking would hold a three-point lead heading into the 4th quarter.

The fourth was a nervous affair for both teams with the lead changing hands multiple times.  Lily Annim had a chance to win it in regulation but she failed to get a shot off at the buzzer, so the game went into overtime.

In the extra period, Barking would hold Copleston scoreless whilst scoring nine points of their own behind Cynthia Adebayo and Cadogan. The final score would be 67-58.

Top scorers for Copleston were Esther Little with 22 and Charlotte Redhead with 12. Barking were led by Jolicia Cadigan with 22 and Tamara Onakedo with 9.

Head coach Mark Clark was happy with the performance, saying: “The girls played great today. We have had some very close games in the WEABL and the result’s haven’t always gone our way, I was proud of how the girls fought against one the premier Academy teams in the country”
