WEABL 2022/23 structures confirmed

The WEABL structure for the 2022/23 season has been confirmed.

The elite academy league will return once again with a two-conference format, dividing the country into a North and South league of 11 total teams.

Reigning champs City of London Academy are back, now known as City of London Academy – Southwark, and they head up a six-strong South Conference.

Last year’s final four outfit Oaklands College also return, but there’s no place for The American School in London, who bow out after their debut season in 2021/22.

WEABL finalists and North Conference winners Nottingham Academy Wildcats will aim to be the team to beat in their group once again, which now comprises of five programmes.

Derby College Trailblazers have elected to withdraw, and Moulton College, who pulled out midway through last season, haven’t returned.

There is a new team in the North however, with Bristol Met/SGS College putting together a new women’s programme to compete in the WEABL.

Here’s the full line up for 2022/23:

Basketball England’s Senior Delivery Manager Gail Richards said: “As we continue to put the restrictions of COVID behind us, last season’s WEABL campaign was a big success.

“2022/23 is sure to be another highly competitive season, with rivalries and closely fought games taking place across the country, the sort of basketball the WEABL has become known for.

“As has been the case for a number of years now, I’m sure the leagues will also continue to be a valuable environment for players to develop both on and off the court as part of the Basketball England Talent Pathway.”
