WEABL Player of the Week – 2 March 2022

We’re heading North for our latest WEABL Player of the Week, with a double-double that was impossible to ignore.

Helping her side to a crucial 61-55 win against Manchester that improved Sheffield’s hopes of a higher playoff seed, Abbey Whitehouse has picked up this week’s award.

Whitehouse’s 24 points went with a stunning 21 rebounds, three blocks plus an assist and a steal, a hefty return in a low-scoring contest.

Her 34 efficiency and 40.8 adjusted efficiency were both weekly highs, making her a shoe-in for the award.

Speaking about her award, Whitehouse said: “I enjoyed the competitive game against Manchester last week and I am thankful for the recognition of my performance.

“I’m proud of how far our team has come and I’m looking forward to continuing that progression in the playoffs.”

Sheffield head coach Will Hooper added: “Everybody knows about how good of a player Abbey is and what she can do on the court.

“What a lot of people don’t see is how she encourages her teammates and keeps them motivated at crucial points in the game, which was much needed in the tight one vs Mystics.”
