WEABL Player of the Week – 12 January 2022

The WEABL is back into the swing of things, with January already a few weeks in and the mid-season break now firmly left behind.

After helping her side to maintain their unbeaten start to the season, the first WEABL Player of the Week of the new year is Nottingham’s Mariam Olawoyin!

With the Wildcats beating Manchester Mystics Academy 79-42, Olawoyin enjoyed a great all-round game to finish with an impressive stat line.

Her 22 points came from an 8-13 shooting performance, throwing in eight rebounds, seven assists and six steals for a final efficiency rating of 26.

Talking about her performance, Olawoyin said: “It’s a pleasure to have won Player of the Week! I had a slow start to the season because of an injury so this is a massive confidence boost.

“It was a great team performance and a great win despite us missing three key players.

“I can’t wait to see how much we can develop and how far we can go in the competition.”

Nottingham’s head coach Kenrick Liburd added: “Mariam has a great attitude and mentality, she’s leading by example and has been great this month at guiding a young group of players.”
