Summer Showcase – week 7 recap

The 2021 WEABL Summer Showcase closed with three games this week, including two for Nottingham Academy Wildcats.

The Midlands side finished strong to claim a win in both contests, with Itchen beating Copleston in the other match up.

The Showcase has provided an excellent platform for talented players across the country to highlight their abilities, helping to stage some exciting games for fans to enjoy.

North Pool

Derby Trailblazers Academy 39-86 Nottingham Academy Wildcats

In a battle between two Midlands rivals, Nottingham overwhelmed Derby for a comfortable 86-39 victory.

The Wildcats enjoyed a quality outing from Maisie Evison, who dropped an impressive 31 points. Shaniya Rose added 17 more, and Dejanae Dennis-Cassanova and Mariam Olawoyin both had 11.

The hosts struggled throughout against a solid defensive front, with only Natasha Barker making it to double digits, she had 12 points.

Nottingham Academy Wildcats 64-46 Manchester Mystics Academy

Not content with their Monday victory over Derby, Nottingham made it two wins in three days as they knocked off Manchester 64-46.

Dejanae Dennis-Cassanova continued her good form to lead all Wildcats on 17 points, whilst the Mystics were paced by 17 points from Maddie Owen.

The result puts Nottingham at 4-0 for the summer, form they’d no doubt love to carry into next season’s WEABL campaign.

South Pool

Itchen College 85-78 Copleston High School

Itchen closed their Showcase on a winning note as they eased past Copleston 85-79.

Young star Faye Endean issued another reminder of her abilities as she closed the campaign with a 32 point haul, and the departing Ella Pearson signed off in style for the visitors, scoring 22 points.

The Ipswich guard will be suiting up in the Fall for NCAAII programme Newbury College, along with a number of seniors from across the WEABL who now take the next step along their basketball journey.
