Summer Showcase – week 2 recap

Another trio of games are now completed as week two of the WEABL Summer Showcase has drawn to a close.

With a pair of games in the North and one in the South, there were wins for Charnwood, Derby and Itchen.

Results and top scorers from week two can be seen on the score ticker of the main WEABL homepage.

North Pool

The Sheffield College 56-64 Derby Trailblazers Academy

Derby got back to winning ways in week two as they knocked off The Sheffield College 64-56.

Reigning WEABL North MVP Abbey Whitehouse top scored for Sheffield with 19 points, but it wouldn’t be enough against the duo of Megan Lovett and Natasha Barker, who both scored 15 for the visitors.

The loss is Sheffield’s second in a row after they tasted defeat last time out against Nottingham, though there’s still plenty of time remaining to bounce back.

Manchester Mystics Academy 54-77 Charnwood College Riders

Charnwood continued their good form as they beat Manchester 77-54 yesterday.

Heading to the North West, being on the road provided no problems for the Riders as Sobiah Harry’s 17 points plus 15 from Kate Davies and 14 more from Kasey Cox saw the Midland’s side over the line.

Manchester were opening their Showcase here after being without a game in week one, though the Mystics couldn’t convert Charli Wroe’s 12 point outing in a W.

South Pool

Barking Abbey 76-78 Itchen College

In the South’s only game, there was still plenty of excitement to go round as Itchen edged Barking 78-76.

Sara Tarr’s game winner with seconds remaining helped the South coast side to a valuable victory, with the talented scorer eventually closing on 15 points.

Charlotte Finn built on her WEABL Player of the Week performance last time out to lead all Itchen scorers with 16 points, as Faye Endean added 15 more in support.

BA were paced by 16 points from the impressive Paula Pazule as the London side dropped their maiden game of the 2021 Showcase.
