Summer Showcase – week 2 preview

The Summer Showcase is back once again with another three games in what is sure to be an exciting week two of action.

There were big wins for Itchen, Nottingham and Charnwood last time out, with Barking and Manchester both getting their summer under way this week.

Results and top scorers from week 1 can be seen on the score ticker of the main WEABL homepage.

North Pool

The Sheffield College v Derby Trailblazers Academy

Sheffield were sunk in week one by 23 points from Nottingham’s Maisie Evison (highlights below) and they’ll look to bounce back here as they host another Midlands side on Friday night.

Despite the loss, Abbey Whitehouse was still able to record a 16 point, 12 rebound double-double, with Julia Borg top scoring on 17.

Derby also tasted defeat last weekend though Megan Lovatt still started her Showcase with a 16 point outing.

Both these teams would like to get into the win column, but one team will remain disappointed.

Manchester Mystics Academy v Charnwood College Riders

Manchester open their season this weekend but it’s a tough match-up for the North West side as they take on Charnwood.

The Riders had no problem beating Derby 64-52 last time out, with
Molly James and Kacey Cox both scoring 11 points as part of a balanced Charnwood attack.

The Mystics have three class of ’21 players to lean on, including forward Holly Bryan, whilst 5’4″ point guard Charli Wroe is always an exciting player to watch.

South Pool

Barking Abbey v Itchen College

There’s just the single game in the South this week as Itchen head to East London tomorrow afternoon.

The South coast programme got off to a flyer last week as they defeated Copleston 69-45, but Barking are always a strong side regardless of the competition.

Charlotte Finn’s 15 points, seven rebounds, three assists and seven steals was a do-it-all performance for Itchen in Suffolk, she’ll be looking to repeat that kind of production if her side are to stand a chance against Kian Omer-Jones, Tamara Fournillier-Onadeko and the rest of the BA roster.
