Week 16 Preview – WEABL

The regular season of the WEABL draws to a close this week, as three games take place in week 16. Most of the play-off places are sealed, but higher seedings going into the ‘Elite Eights’ are up for grabs.

The Sheffield College (5-4) v Nottingham Academy Wildcats (7-2)

Sheffield occupy the last play-off spot in the Northern Conference, with second place Wilcats out of reach. They will finish third with a final home win, but a loss will keep them fourth due to Manchester Mystics winning their head-to-head battle, confirmed in last week’s away defeat.

The visitors, meanwhile cannot be caught following their big win over Derby in week 15, but will also be unable to clinch top spot, with leaders Charnwood edging any head-to-head scenario by two points.

Confidence will be high for the visitors following their 92-49 win over this week’s hosts at the start of the month, which has seen Sheffield go into this on the back of two straight defeats.

City of London Academy (6-3) v Barking Abbey (4-3)

CoLA go into their final game of the regular season in high spirits, after inflicting the John Madejski Academy’s first defeat of the season. Mia Sarkodee-Adoo starred with 14 points and will be looking to finish the regular season on a high, with CoLA able to finish as high as third before the play-off stages.

Barking also have their play-off spot sealed, but have an outside chance of taking third place from CoLA should they win both of their games.

Barking Abbey (4-3) v Itchen College (1-7)

Barking were last in action in their impressive 67-58 overtime win against Copleston. Jolicia Cadogan hit top form with 20 points and is someone the visitors will have to contain to have any hope of pulling off a result.

Itchen will be playing for pride in week 16 with the play-off places out of reach. They will look to improve on the 72-44 defeat to Copleston, with Caitlin Collier looking for a performance similar to her 15-point display last time out.
