Week 14 Preview – WEABL

Nick Winter

Three games take place in week 14 of the WEABL, as Conference toppers Charnwood and JMA look to maintain their unbeaten runs and two winless teams go head to head in the Southern Conference.

Charnwood College (8-0) v Nottingham Academy Wildcats  (4-2)

Charnwood College face the Challenge of Wildcats as they look to keep this 100% win record going. Both teams got good wins last time out, with Charnwood easing to a routine victory at winless Myerscough and Wildcats seeing off the visiting Manchester Mystics.

As if a trip on the road to the leaders isn’t enough, Wildcats will have to also find a way past Alex Baker, who tops the blocked shots leader-board with an average of four per game.

Derby Trailblazers Academy (4-2) v Manchester Mystics Academy (2-3)

Mystics look to make amends for that defeat on the road at Wildcats and the narrow loss to Sheffield since then, against a derby side just below them in the Northern Conference.

They’ll have to contend with the home threat posed by Kenny Hamilton and Neve Marvill, who between them boast the rebound and assist charts in the league, and are the top two in the steals leader-board this season.

Itchen College (0-6) v Oaklands College (0-7)

The two win-less teams in the Southern Conference face of as one is set to end their dismal records in the league so far this season. Both teams didn’t have it easy playing the teams at the top last time out, with this set to be a much tighter affair.
