Week 8 Preview – WEABL

Joe Pinchin/Leicester Riders

Three games make up the week 8 slate in the WEABL, with a pair of games in the North and a solitary fixture in the Southern Conference.

Derby Trailblazers Academy (1-4) v Charnwood College (5-0)

After a comprehensive win over Myerscough to begin October, Derby have suffered three straight defeats to slip down the standings. Charnwood have had no such problems, recording five wins from five to top the Conference.

These sides also met just a week ago, with Charnwood hosting that fixture and securing a 73-55 win. Derby will no doubt be hoping that home court advantage aids them here, but it’s still unlikely that the Riders are going to slip up tomorrow.

The Sheffield College (2-1) v Manchester Mystics Academy (2-1)

Sitting in 2nd place despite this being their debut season, Sheffield have a lot to enjoy in 2019/20 and go into a home tie against Manchester with plenty of momentum.

Manchester should have some momentum of their own however, securing a narrow 52-48 win against Derby in their last game, though that was nearly a month ago.

Oaklands College (0-4) v Barking Abbey (2-3)

Barking come into this game with a rare record of less than .500, but they should be able to right that tomorrow against winless Oaklands College.

BA have already dispatched the Wolves 81-66 in early October and will be hopeful they can do the same here, despite losing three games on the spin. Two of those have been by just a single point, a harsh run for any team to endure.
