Week 7 Preview – WEABL

Three games across the WEABL league, with three fixtures in the Northern Conference and just the one in the Southern. Here’s the latest preview.

Nottingham Academy Wildcats (1-2) v The Sheffield College (2-1)

It’s second against fourth in the Northern Conference when Sheffield travel to Nottingham, with just three points separating the sides in the league table.

The hosts secured their first win of the season in week six against Derby Trailblazers with a 64-56 scoreline. 

For Sheffield, Abbey Whitehouse is second in the WEABL Efficiency Leaders with an average of 30.5 and an average of 25.5 points per game, whilst teammate Ava Patchesa has a team-high 28 ppg. 

Their fixture against Manchester Mystics fell to postponement last week, and before then they defeated Myerscough 82-49. 

Charnwood College Riders (4-0) v Derby Trailblazers (1-3)

Charnwood have the perfect record of 4-0, defeating Sheffield, Manchester, Myerscough and Nottingham to sit at the top of the Northern Conference.

Alex Baker holds the impressive efficiency rating of 17.5 for Charnwood, whilst also averaging 14.5 ppg. 

Derby sit fifth in the league table, with a record of 1-3. Forward Kenny Hamilton scoring a team high 12.8 ppg on average, whilst teammate Natasha Baker has 11.5 ppg.

Barking Abbey (2-2) v City of London Academy (2-2)

In the only Southern Conference game of the week, third-placed Barking host City of London just below them, with both sides sitting at the table with six points and a record of 2-2. 

Barking were involved in overtime against JMA in week six, but it was the Rockets who would come out on top, winning 53-52.

The hosts in Barking led by one heading into the final 10 seconds, but it wasn’t to be. Ines Goryanova scoring a team high 13.8 ppg on average.

For CoLA, Amelia Sandie has averaged 14.8 ppg, and their last game resulting in a dominant 74-44 victory against Itchen, with Sandie on her best form with 25 points.
