Game Day Recap – Week 6

Week 6 is now in the books, with three games in the WEABL. A single game in the North, a pair in the South, let’s take a look at how the action played out.

All eyes were on East London as a period of overtime was needed to separate Barking and JMA. Eventually it was the Rockets who would come out on top, winning 53-52.

The hosts did lead by 1 with less than 10 seconds to go, but Carmen Segura Moreno held her nerve to sink two last gasp free throws and give JMA a huge win.

Sitota Gines Espinosa led the way for the visitors with 20 points, as Moreno’s heroics from the charity stripe capped a 13 point performance. Tamara Fornillier Onadeko and Anna Trett both had 12 points for BA.

In the Southern Conference’s other game, Copleston easily handled Itchen 97-42 thanks to 37 points from forward Cameron Taylor-Willis. Two time WEABL Player of the Week Ella Pearson chipped in with a further 33 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists in another dominant performance.

In the Northern Conference’s only game, a late 12-4 run helped Nottingham Academy Wildcats secure their first win of the season, beating Derby Trailblazers Academy 64-56.

Manchester’s trip to Sheffield was postponed and will be rearranged for a later date.

We’ll have full reports on all three of those games tomorrow afternoon.
