WEABL Player of Week 1 – Cynthia Adebayo

The talented Barking Abbey forward was impressive against Itchen!

Barking Abbey’s Cynthia Adebayo is the inaugural WEABL Player of the Week for 2019/20 following week 1 of the regular season on Wednesday. The 6’1″ centre played a key role in her side’s 87-44 win on the road against Itchen College.

Adebayo impressed players and spectators alike with a huge double-double performance of 16 points and 18 rebounds, including a game changing 12 offensive boards than overpowered Itchen inside. With a pair of assists and a pair of steals to her name as well for a total efficiency rating of 25, Adebayo was a standout performer to open the season.

“I really do appreciate being chosen as Player of the Week,” said Adebayo upon receiving the award. “This was a really good win for my team as we were able to see how well we could perform together for the first time since basically gaining a whole new roster.

“I feel like even though we’re a new team, we still worked hard for each other, moving and dishing the ball to open players. We were resilient on our attacks, fighting for our own rebounds if we did miss.

“However this is only our starting point, we still have so much to build on in the coming weeks. I’m excited for this season and can’t wait to prove just how strong we are. It’s a great group of people; there’s no doubt we’ll go far.”
