Player of the Week: Lauren Green

Itchen College’s Lauren Green receives the WEABL Player of the Week award after dropping an impressive 14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists to give her side their first win of the season against Oaklands College. Itchen needed to win by more than 11 points to gain a play-off seed, however despite the willing efforts of Green and her team, the home side fell just one point short with the score finishing 67-57, as the 1-9 Oaklands College advanced to the play-offs.

Green commented on her performance saying, “I am thrilled to have won this award. This game was an important game to us and despite the win we narrowly missed out on the playoffs. However, we played very well as a team and the effort from everyone was exceptional. This is my first season in this league and I have really enjoyed playing against high levels of competition. It has really improved my game and I have loved the constant challenge. We knew from the start of the season it was going to be tough but we competed right through to the end and have showed a vast improvement. I want to thank both my coaches as I couldn’t have done it without all their support.”

Coach Vicky Milner added, “Lauren has been excellent for us this year, her work rate is hard to match and she continually amazes me with her “never give up” attitude. She regularly leads the team in scoring,  rebounds and effectiveness on court despite being an under sized forward. This league has really enabled both Lauren and her team mates to improve rapidly throughout the season. It is a shame we didn’t get the 11 point win needed on Wednesday but with all but one of the team returning next year, we are confident we can improve on this years standings.”
