Player of the Week: Esther Little

Copleston High School’s Esther Little receives her fourth WEABL Player of the Week award after dropping a huge 31 points to give her side the close victory over Itchen College in week 17.

Esther last picked up the award in Week 13 when she stuffed the stats sheet against John Madejski Academy with 19 points, 16 rebounds, 7 assists and 7 steals.

The 6’1 guard has had an impressive season thus far, particularly on the offensive end, and continued her display of dominance last week as she dropped 25 of her 31 points in the second half alone to help seal the deal for Copleston, who now sit at the top of the Southern Conference with a 7-1 record.

Esther commented on her performance saying, “I appreciate this award, the game wasn’t what we expected but I think we adapted well as a team and people stepped up in the 2nd half. Ella deserves recognition for this game, she had her best game of the season getting a big double-double. Moving forward we know we need to be a lot better as we are preparing for possibly the biggest game of the season next Tuesday.”

Coach Nick Drane commented on Esther’s performance saying, “Esther is having a fantastic season in her first year in the WEABL, leading the team in so many ways. She has now won this award 4 times this season, which is fantastic, but it’s going to take a total team effort for us to achieve our goals this season. Despite the win, we were all disappointed with this performance and know we will need to be a thousand times better on Tuesday against CoLA.”
