Player of the Week: Loren Christie

After helping her Barking Abbey side to a 59-47 victory over a dogged John Maadejski Academy, Loren Christie has been named the WEABL Player of the Week. Christie finished with 21 points, including going 3-6 from long range. She added nine rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block to her stat line for good measure, dropping 12 of her points in the game’s 3rd quarter to help Barking build a lead they’d never relinquish.

“It’s really great to get this award after seeing some big numbers put up in other games. The win was huge for us, we knew it was essential for a better playoff spot and we worked to get it,” said Christie, a current member of the GB Under 20s. “The start of the game was the most important for us, once we got started we weren’t gonna give it up. Credit to JMA who really did make us work for it, but when we’re moving the ball as a group and have people like Jolicia (Cadogan) hitting shots, it’s always a good game for the team. There’s no doubt we’ll carry this on for the rest of the games and hopefully into playoff play as well.”

Barking Abbey Coach Diana Naydenova-Goryanova said: “It was a good performance from Loren to lead the team not only in scoring but it the way she interacted with her team mates as well. She has shown a good maturity in the second half of the season and our performances in this competition have been improving well.  Hopefully she can continue to keep getting better each week and the work that she has been doing behind closed doors continues.”
