Player of the Week: Kyra Smith

Kyra Smith has been named WEABL Player of the Week after a 16 point and 14 rebound performance in Week 7 against Nottingham Academy Wildcats.

Her double-double performance for Myerscough College came in a tight 56-67 road win, as the 5’9″ wing added two assists and five steals on the day.

Smith looked to her teammates after receiving the award, “I am very thankful to have received this award. The game against Nottingham was very up and down, but I am proud of the team for pulling through. Everyone’s individual efforts got us the win that we travelled for, especially Celina’s [Eisenhardt] game-high 18 points and Sasha [Lecuyer], who was big defensively.”

Myerscough Coach Michael Bernard added, “It’s great to see that Kyra Smith has been selected as the Player of the Week. I am very happy to have her back playing at Myerscough this season as she can showcase her leadership skills, as well as her basketball skills, this season with a young group.”

Cocah Bernard continued, “Kyra has been working very hard on her individual development over the summer to improve her game and now into the season she is working really hard on her team leadership as she is the captain of the team. It is great to see Kyra being recognised as Player of the Week, showing all her work is paying off.”
