WEABL Final Four Recap

The top two seeds in the WEABL will go head-to-head for the WEABL Championship title in a repeat of the inaugural final.

Barking Abbey [1] vs Oaklands [4]

The 2016 champions and top seeds Barking Abbey booked their return to the final with a dominant 111-47 success over Oaklands.

Charlotte Ellmore starred with 20 points along with 5 rebounds and 8 assists in the win with Loren Christie posting a double-double of 19 points and 13 rebounds.

Flora Durgerian contributed 18 points with three other players in double figures to pace the home side.

“Really happy with the game,” said BA Head Coach Karen Burton. “Players came in focused and that showed in the start we had.

“We executed in transition and were excellent from the perimeter with both Charlotte and Flora finding their rhythm from the three.

“Loren Christie’s and Megan Sheret’s inside contributions were a huge boost and it was a great all round team performance.”

The visitors had a depleted lineup without Tia Freeman and Krisztina Nagy with Cierra Belsham leading the way with 23 points and 12 rebounds in the loss.

Charnwood [2] vs City of London Academy [3]

Charnwood made it three straight final appearances after knocking out the defending champions CoLA with a 91-50 triumph.

Holly Winterburn and Ebony Horton both scored 18 points in the win as well as handing out a combined 11 assists.

Megan Jones added 16 points with Imogen Cook contributing 15 points as the quartet shared 67 of their side’s 91 points.

“Today’s win means so much – getting back to the finals to finish off what we didn’t manage to get done last year,” said Jones.

“It was a team effort today, and everyone was contributing. Our offence flowed well and our defence was at a high intensity.”

Megan Haines had 17 for CoLA as their title defence came to an end with Charnwood dominating the first half as they established a 20-point advantage to take control.
