Academy Finals Return to Leicester for Third Year

The 2018 Academy Finals Day will be returning to the Leicester Sports Arena on Thursday, March 22nd.

With the post-season fast approaching; the ABL regular season will be completed by February 23, the EABL March 2 and WEABL March 9, the National Championship finals of the Academy Basketball League (ABL), Women’s Elite Academy Basketball League (WEABL) and Elite Academy Basketball League (EABL) will all take place throughout the afternoon on March 22, tipping off at 1pm.

The EABL and WEABL are the premier junior, male and female basketball competitions in the United Kingdom, featuring the top U19 programmes in the country.

The ABL is an invite-only, high-level competition for non-AASE (Advanced Level Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence) institutions that prioritise basketball. It is made up of 30 teams overall and split into four conferences.

As with last year, there will also be an ‘Exit & Progression Exhibition’ area, where a number of universities from across the country will be showcasing their full and part-time scholarships for basketball athletes that wish to advance both their athletic pursuits and academic studies post-Further Education.

“It’s great to be back in Leicester Arena to host the finals again this year,” Basketball England’s Delivery Manager, Taner Adu said.

“I have been involved in the last three finals there and they have all been great events, with exciting basketball on display. It’s a great opportunity for people to see the high standard of basketball played at the academy level. Last season we had over a 1000 fans come to watch and I hope this year is no different!”

Entrance is free for spectators, who are encouraged to come and watch.

“The Academy leagues and finals event have continued to grow and established itself as the premier junior competition in the country,” Academy Leagues Chairman Jesse Sazant commented.

“The event is a great opportunity for the EABL, WEABL and ABL teams and players to celebrate their season and is a great showcase for the players and the academy leagues.”

The full schedule for the event is as follows:
